Why is gas in Illinois so high?
There also are higher taxes imposed in Illinois on gasoline compared with other states. The state raised its motor fuel tax on July 1, 2021, by a half-cent to 39.2 cents per gallon in addition to other assorted sales taxes. That’s on top of a federal gas tax of 18.4 cents.
