One Day in Auschwitz is an hour-long documentary produced by USC Shoah Foundation and originally broadcast on Discovery on Jan. 27, 2015. It follows Holocaust survivor Kitty Hart-Moxon as she returns to Auschwitz-Birkenau with two high school students, Natalia Smith and Lydia Hollingsworth, to tell them her story.
How long did the average person survive in Auschwitz?
More than 50% of the people interned in Auschwitz died—whether they were executed, or died of starvation, exhaustion, torture, disease, pseudo-scientific experiments, or the harsh conditions of daily life and slave labor in the camp. The average life expectancy did not exceed a few weeks after imprisonment.

At one point, Kitty became ill with typhus; she is of the opinion that the typhus immunisation that her father managed to arrange in the Lublin Ghetto may have been responsible for her recovery.

After many attempts, the family escaped and obtained non-Jewish documents. They had to split up to maximise their chances of survival. Kitty and her mother posed as Polish forced labourers and were transported to Bitterfeld within Germany to work in a munitions plant.
