What is tankguard?
Jotun Tankguard SF is a two component solvent free amine cured novolac epoxy coating that is a specially designed tank lining with very good chemical resistance. It can be used as a primer, mid coat or finish coat in atmospheric and immersed environments.
How does tank guard work?
How does TANK-GUARD® work? TANK-GUARD® corrosion inhibitor is a water soluble concentrate. It does not mix with the large quantity of oil in the tank. It mixes only with the relatively small amount of moisture and sludge in the tank bottom where it serves as a neutralizing agent and helps to impede further corrosion.
Do oil tank additives work?
The more impurities in your tank, the less efficient your system will be. Additives help to remove impurities and return your system to its efficient state. They can emulsify water droplets, which can then prevent bacterial growth.
How do I get rid of sludge in my oil tank?

Does heating oil need an additive?
When your boiler is working properly, your fuel is being used efficiently. Heating oil additives help to keep your appliance working efficiently in between services by breaking down deposits that can lead to coke building around the nozzle.
Can oil sludge be removed?
Use An Engine Flush They are typically added to the old oil, then you idle the engine for 5-10 minutes without driving it. This gives the chemical solution time to solvate the sludge and draw as much of it as possible back into the oil. Then you change the oil and the engine sludge is removed along with the old oil.
How often should you clean your oil tank?
When Is It Time for a Home Oil Tank Cleaning? To avoid problems associated with sludge, plan on scheduling home oil tank cleaning every three to five years, depending on how much oil you use annually. Other issues that prompt more frequent tank cleaning are loose vent caps that let in air, moisture and insects.
Is it worth buying premium heating oil?
The Advantages of Using Premium Kerosene Inhibits the build-up of carbon, rust and sludge. Reduces the chance of maintenance issues and breakdowns. Increases the life of your tank and boiler. Better fuel stability, with a cleaner, greener burn.
What are the main causes of oil sludge?
In general, oil sludge buildup can happen because of oxidation due to high temperatures. It can also be caused by driving in heavy, stop-and-go traffic and frequently driving short distances.
What causes oil sludge build up?
Oil sludge is often the result of contaminated engine oil and occurs when moisture and/or high heat is introduced to engine oil. Oil sludge maintains a gel-like or semi-solid form and can create catastrophic buildup within an engine.
What should an oil tank sit on?
Base requirements: The tank must be sited on a fireproof base (such as concrete or stone slabs) The base must be at least 50mm thick – if using paving slabs – on a compact and blinded hardcore base OR 100mm or concrete. It must extend 300mm around the perimeter of the oil storage tank.
