The throttle actuator control motor is used on cars with electronically controlled throttle bodies also called drive-by-wire. On these systems, the gas pedal is a sensor that sends a signal to the throttle actuator control motor which opens and closes the throttle plate according to demand.

If the PCM detects that the throttle is not opening correctly in proportion to the signal received from the APP Sensor, the PCM will set code P2101. The PCM may also put the engine into “limp home mode”, limiting the available power from the engine to prevent unwanted acceleration.
