What is chromoly frame BMX?
Chromoly is a type of metal used to design mid to high level BMX bike parts. It’s much stronger then the other option which is high tensile steel. However, it also costs a little bit more. A big difference is that high tensile steel bends because the tubing is so weak.
Which is better chromoly or alloy frame?
Chromoly is slightly heavier than aluminum, but the frame can be thinner and has reduced stiffness, which provides a smoother ride. Steel is ductile, unlike aluminum, which makes it possible to offer stronger seamless steel tubes. Also, steel is reliable: it fails in a predictable way, bending before it breaks.
Where is the serial number on a Jamis bike?
Where do I find my bike’s serial number? The serial number for your bike can be found stamped or printed on the underside (bottom bracket shell) of the frame.
How long do chromoly bikes last?
Chromoly frames are typically overdesigned well above the endurance (fatigue) limit of 0.54 of tensile strength. This means if the welds are properly done, you can expect what we call ‘infinite life’.
How do I know if my BMX frame is chromoly?
Chromoly tends to be thinner wall, and more rigid, both combine to give it a brighter and longer ringing sound. But the only way to learn this is by walking around a few dozen bike frames and listening for the subtle differences, especially as other factors will also affect the sound.
Are chromoly bikes good?
A workhorse of the industry, chromoly is a light, strong steel. When it is butted and shaped to take off excess weight, it can deliver a fairly light frame that will last through years of hard use. Chromoly is responsive and offers good flex while maintaining its form.
How do I read my Jamis serial number?
You can find your serial number on the underside (bottom bracket) of your bike. My bike shows two numbers on the bottom bracket.
