What is a blue Cochin?
The Blue Cochin is stately, gentle, and is very rare. These bluish-slate birds with bright red combs are excellent for showing. The Cochin breed is one of our family favorites.
What is a self Blue Cochin?
Self Blue Cochin bantam chicks are solid gray with darker backs and lighter heads. They have single combs and feathered legs and feet. All the adult plumage is pale or powder blue, with the male plumage being noticeably darker than the female.

What does a Cochin look like?
The Cochin is a large bird and with their fluffy feathers these chickens seems enormous. Their feathering is full and soft and not tight like a Rhode Island Reds’. From the side they look like a heart shaped fluff ball. The feathering extends down the legs to the feet and toes – the only naked toes are the inner two.
Is self blue the same as lavender?
Since the APA and ABA officially call the lavender variety self blue they are the same variety according to them. Fred Jeffrey in his book BANTAM CHICKENS also lists at least 10 other names for this same color.
