In the early 1800’s, 5,000 acres of former Overhill Cherokee tribal land was deeded to General William Lenoir of North Carolina…for his services to the nation during the Revolutionary War. After winning a protracted court battle with other claimants, William deeded the tract to his son, William Ballard Lenoir.
