Is Fermaid K the same as yeast nutrient?
description. The original and reliable Fermaid K™ is a blended complex yeast nutrient that supplies inorganic nitrogen (DAP), organic nitrogen (alpha amino nitrogen), key nutrients (magnesium sulfate, thiamine, folic acid, niacin, biotin and calcium pantothenate) and inactivated yeast.
What is Fermaid K used for?
Fermaid K™ is a blended complex yeast nutrient suitable for use in the alcohol fermentation of grape must, fruit mashes or cereal mashes. Developed by Clayton Cone of Lallemand, proper use of Fermaid K™ reduces the occurrence of sluggish and stuck fermentations.
Is Fermaid K necessary?
The unsaturated fatty acids and sterols available in Fermaid K are important survival factors needed to maintain alcohol resistance. They also help keep volatile acidity levels low.
Is yeast nutrient the same as Energizer?
It is important to remember that Yeast Energizer and Yeast Nutrient are not the same thing. Although Yeast Energizers are types of nutrient blends, they also contain components such as vitamin B, diammonium phosphate, tricalcium phosphate, magnesium sulphate, and yeast hulls.
What is Fermaid made of?
Fermaid K™ is a complex yeast nutrient that contains a blend of assimilable amino acids from inactivated and autolyzed yeast, sterols and unsaturated fatty acids, magnesium sulfate, thiamin, folic acid, niacin, calcium pantothenate, diammonium phosphate (DAP), and inactivated yeast.
How long does Fermaid K last?
Shelf life of Fermaid K is two years.
What is the difference between Fermaid O and Fermaid K?
The main difference between the two Lallemand products, Fermaid O and Fermaid K is the source of nitrogen. In Fermaid O the nitrogen is organically derived in the form of autolyzed yeasts. In Fermaid K the source of nitrogen is DAP or diammonium phosphate which is a salt produced artificially.
Can I use yeast energizer instead of yeast nutrient?
Yeast Energizer is not the same as a nutrient. Please don’t use the lingo or products interchangeably because you can damage your yeast. Energizers are indeed nutrient blends, but typically contain components such as diammonium phosphate, yeast hulls, magnesium sulfate, vitamin B complexes, and tricalcium phosphate.
Does Fermaid K contain DAP?
Fermaid K contains some DAP, but for very low Nitrogen content must, DAP is recommended to bring YANC to above 150 mg N/L. Each 2 lb/1000 gal (25 g/hL) addition yields 50 mg N/L inorganic (ammonium) nitrogen.
How do you rehydrate Fermaid K?
To use, simply rehydrate Fermaid K (1 gram per gallon of wine must, or roughly 1 tsp. for 5 gallons) with room temperature water, and add to an active fermentation. The amount of water used for rehydration is not critical. Just add enough to make a slurry.
