To do a triathlon you need to invest in a tri suit – this is what you will wear for the entire duration of your race; for the swim, the bike and the run. For the swim, you would wear a wetsuit (if allowed i.e. cold enough) on top of your tri suit for extra warmth and buoyancy.
What do female triathletes wear?
Typically, a first-time triathlete will wear a swimsuit for the swim with a sports bra or supportive swimsuit top underneath, and then pull cycling shorts on during T1 (first transition).
What do you wear under a tri suit?
The answer is no. You should not wear underwear (except a sports bra) under your trisuit in a race. Can you listen to music during an Ironman?

Should I wear my tri suit under my wetsuit?
A good Tri top will not bunch up under the wetsuit, and will keep its form-fitting shape. Ditto for women sporting a sport top. Otherwise, you go shirtless for the swim and throw a running or workout shirt on at the first transition.
Do tri suits make you faster?
