Why did Trojan records go bust?
While the move initially paid dividends, the costs involved began to take their toll on the company’s finances. In 1975, the company was liquidated and its assets acquired by Marcel Rodd’s Saga Records, which had previously largely focused on releasing budget LPs.
What happened to Lee Gopthal?
Gopthal continued to have a limited involvement in the record industry until the late 1970s, when he returned to a career in insurance. He died in 1997, aged 59. In 2020, he was posthumously recognised for his work by the Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA).
