What is a Demifacet?
A demifacet is actually half of a facet and is where part of the head of the rib or part of the costal cartilage articulates and these are usually found on ribs 2 through 9. The superior demifacet of the body of the vertebra receives the head of the rib with the same number as the vertebra of interest.
What are the tubercles of the ribs?
Tubercle. The tubercle, immediately after the neck, is a prominence on the external surface of the rib which contains a medial facet that articulates with the transverse process of the numerically corresponding vertebra. This area is called the articular part.
Where are Demifacets located?
The demifacets are bilaterally paired and located on the superior and inferior posterolateral aspects of the vertebrae. They are positioned so that the superior demifacet of the inferior vertebrae articulates with the head of the same rib that articulates with the inferior demifacet of the superior rib.

The transverse costal facet is the surface that articulates with the tubercle of the rib with the same number for the first ten thoracic vertebrae. For example, the transverse costal facet of thoracic vertebra 5 articulates with the tubercle of rib 5.
What is the difference between Demifacet and costal facet?
Costal facets or demifacets are found on the bodies of the vertebrae. The distinction between facet and demifacet (half a facet) rests upon whether the head of the rib articulates on only one body (facet) or overlaps two (demifacet).
