How sensitive is RTL-SDR?
Both dongles have a very high sensitivity. Between about 50 and 450MHz the E4000 is about 5dB better than the R820 (-139dBm vs -134dBm). At 1000MHz the E4000 is about 8dB less sensitive (-129dBm vs -137dBm).
What does RTL-SDR stand for?
What is RTL in RTL-SDR? RTL is short for RTL2832U. The Realtek RTL2832U chipset was a popular choice for digital video broadcast (DVB-T) receivers, whose original purpose was to receive video. It was discovered that these could be hacked and turned into wideband SDR receivers.
Can RTL-SDR receive WiFi?
A Demonstration of the RTL-SDR Receiving WiFi and 2.4 GHz ISM with a Modded SUP-2400 Downconverter. Back in April we posted about how KD0CQ found that he could receive signals up to 4.5 GHz with an RTL-SDR by using a $5 downconverter for DirecTV called the SUP-2400.
What is an SDR ham radio?
Software-defined radio (SDR) is a radio communication system where components that have been traditionally implemented in hardware (e.g. mixers, filters, amplifiers, modulators/demodulators, detectors, etc.) are instead implemented by means of software on a personal computer or embedded system.
What is HackRF used for?
Designed to enable test and development of modern and next generation radio technologies, HackRF One is an open source hardware platform that can be used as a USB peripheral or programmed for stand-alone operation.
What can a RTL-SDR do?
The RTL-SDR can be used as a wide band radio scanner. Applications include: Use as a police radio scanner. Listening to EMS/Ambulance/Fire communications.
What can HackRF One do?
HackRF One works as a sound card of the computer. It processes Digital Signals to Radio waveforms allowing the integration of large-scale communication networks. It is designed to test, develop, improvise, and modify the contemporary Radio Frequency systems.
What is HackRF One?
Does nooelec sell rtl-sdr related products?
The online store Nooelec has recently started selling two new RTL-SDR related products. The first product is a lower cost RTL-SDR dongle with the E4000 tuner ( ebay ). The E4000 tuner was one of the original tuner chips used in RTL-SDR dongles when they were first discovered.
What is the difference between R820T and E4000 dongles?
The R820T generally has better RF performance than the E4000, is cheaper and covers the lower frequencies. If you need the higher frequencies then E4000 dongles are still available online, though they are sold at a premium price. I’ve had roughly the same experience.
Is the Elonics E4000 rtl-sdr tuner becoming rare?
Over on the Gough’s Tech Zone blog, Gough has posted about his experiences in trying to obtain an E4000 RTL-SDR. He found that finding a real E4000 on ebay was tough, with most vendors claiming to have “upgraded E4000s” which were in fact R820T’s. The E4000 tuner is becoming rare as Elonics, the manufacturer has shut down.
Is there a sdrsharp report on E4000 and R820 tuners?
Over on the SDRSharp Yahoo group, HB9AJG has posted an interesting report in a PDF file containing some measurements (Note you will need to be a member of the group to download the file titled “Some Measurements on E4000 and R820 Tuners.pdf”.
