Is banishment a good spell 5e?
Perhaps one of the only spells that can save an adventuring party from sudden demonic attacks, elemental incursions, or other attacks from creatures not of this world, banishment can be a lifesaver if you know how to use it correctly.

Casting Banishment on yourself instantly ends the spell as it makes you incapacitated and is a concentration spell. If you’re doing this because you’re in a plane that you are not native to, and you fail the save, you would return to your plane at the DM’s discretion.

Is banishment permanent 5e?
A spell ends at the end of its duration, if you stop concentrating on it, or it is forcibly ended. When banishment ends and the creature returns, it is no longer incapacitated. If the creature is banished to its home plane for a full minute without losing concentration, it stays there.
