What macrogol is used for?
Macrogol (or macrogols) is a laxative taken to treat constipation (difficulty pooing). It’s also taken to help clear a build-up of hard poo in your bowel, which can happen if you’ve been constipated for a long time (faecal impaction).

Macrogol 4000 is used for the symptomatic treatment of constipation in adults and children aged ≥ 6 months [15, 16]. It should be taken as a temporary treatment for constipation in addition to a healthy lifestyle and diet; in children, the maximum duration of treatment should be 3 months.

What is the best time of day to take macrogol?
What is the correct time of day to give the Macrogol? It does not matter what time of day the macrogol is given. Once the macrogol is mixed it can be kept in the fridge for up to twenty-four hours. When children are on large doses, such as during disimpaction, you may need to spread it throughout the day.

Can you mix macrogol with milk?
The resultant liquid can be mixed with anything your child likes, to encourage them to drink it e.g. squash, juice, hot chocolate, milk. DO NOT mix the powder straight into the milk/juice/flavoured drink – it needs to ‘bind’ with the water first.
