How does the 3 Liga work?
From the 2018–19 season onwards, four teams will be promoted to the 3. Liga. The champions of the Regionalliga Südwest and Nordost will be promoted directly. A third team to be promoted will be drawn from the three champions of the Regionalliga Nord, West, and Bayern.
How does the 2. Bundesliga work?
In Germany, the teams who finish 16th in the Bundesliga and third in Bundesliga 2 contest the relegation play-off. The first leg is played at the home of the Bundesliga side and the second leg is played at the home of the Bundesliga 2 side.
