What is significance of Chura?
Popular especially among Punjabi brides-to-be, the wedding Chura signifies the beginning of their wedded life ahead. Although now the Chura has become quite a fashion statement among women, it is traditionally considered to be an important and auspicious Shringar of a newly married bride.
What is Chooda Wadhana?
For this too, another ceremony is performed named as ‘Chura Wadhana’. In this ritual, the bride’s sister-in-law is the only one who can remove it from the bride’s wrist. If the bride wants to wear it for a longer time, the sister-in-law only removes two bangles from each hand and then places it back.

How many bangles are there in chuda?
The Punjabi Chuda and its sweet story- These wedding bangles come in a set of two for each hand. As per the traditions, a set of 21 bangles is selected by the family which are white and red in colour. Although the trends have changed and some brides also opt for colours like pink, maroon, orange, and so on.
Why is choora dipped in milk?
They would also buy clothes for the paternal family. This is a dwindling tradition. If it is a girl’s wedding; the next big aspect of the night is the choora ceremony. This is when the maternal uncles will put wedding bangles (choora) on the bride by dipping them in a milk and water mixture first.

Taking three to four bangles at a time, the maternal uncle places the choora on the bride and if there are more than one maternal uncle the ritual is performed by all in hierarchical order, taking turns. After the ceremony the sweets and shagan are given to the bride.
Can choora be removed and worn again?
Traditionally, you can replace your choora from 1 to 3 times. But there is no bar in numbers, you can also wear a new Punjabi chuda on your anniversary or any other special occasion.
What is Kalire?
Kalira (also spelled as Kaleera or Kalire) is a silver or gold embellished, umbrella shaped ornament that is attached to the bride’s Chooda or bangle, which is a set of traditional white and red colored bangles worn on each arm. A Punjabi bride’s wedding attire is incomplete without the resplendent Kalira, or Kalirey.

When can we remove choora?
It is now normal for the bride to wear her choora for a month and a quarter (40 days). As the choora is made of fragile materials, Punjabi custom has it that the bride may refrain from heavy housework in her marital home to keep it intact for the 40 days, as a kind of honeymoon.
How do you wear Kalire?
The ritual is followed with the bride shaking her chooda and kalire worn hands on the heads of all the unmarried girls present. It is believed that if any part or leaf of the kalire falls on the head of any girl’s head, she will be the next one to get married.
